Kennedy Space Center

Before going their, our exposure to the Kennedy Space Center, was news of various launches. It turned out to be a pleasant surprise. To really get the full experience you should set aside a full day. Our advice for this attraction is to look for and remember to bring a coupon, eat first and bring drinking water & snacks. Another suggestion is to do the IMAX shows and look around the visitor’s complex before taking the bus tour.

When we arrived we were pleased to find that parking was free. The admission fee has a tiered structure based on activities. We had forgotten about the coupons until someone gave us one. Of course the coupon is only good for the most expensive maximum access passes.

First thing we came to was the robot scout tour. Here they explained how they used robots for exploration. Not having the experience of our own advice, the next thing we did was take the bus tour. The term “bus tour” is misleading. Although they do explain some things on the bus, it is basically transportation to 3 different sites, each site has a movie or two and lots of things to see. The day we were there the buses seemed a little slow – I think they were one short of a full fleet. Altogether the bus tour took 3 - 4 hours.

When we got back to the visitor’s center we were able to get in and see the 3D IMAX movie. My one complaint is that the movies are scheduled such that you can’t see two of them consecutively, this is where Murphy raised his ugly head. Our Maxipass allowed us 2 IMAX shows but to see the second show would have meant having to hang around another hour. At this point we decided just to give it up since we were SPACED OUT!
